Seven-time Man Utd title winner to train with Blackburn

Wes Brown is to train with Blackburn Rovers this week, according to The Sun (26th June, Page 70). The former Manchester United defender was released by Sunderland over the summer.

The 36-year-old played over 200 times for Man Utd, winning seven Premier League titles and two Champions League trophies. He left Sunderland after five years after being deemed surplus to requirements.

In all competitions, Brown only made six appearances for the Black Cats last season. He hasn’t played since January 23rd, in a 1-1 home draw with AFC Bournemouth.

New Rovers boss Owen Coyle is looking to stamp his own authority on his Ewood Park squad. Danny Graham and Anthony Stokes to name two are players to have already been brought into the club.

Brown has now been granted a trial period with Blackburn in order to impress ahead of the new season. The centre back would likely be offered a one-year contract should he sufficiently impress the ex-Burnley and Bolton manager.

The player has had his fitness and injury problems in recent times, so Coyle will be keen to get to the bottom of that issue. In a competitive Championship, where games come thick and fast, Brown will need to prove his fitness.
