Plymouth Argyle sign former Sheffield United striker

Plymouth Argyle have signed Jordan Slew from Chesterfield on a free transfer as confirmed by the club website.

The 23-year-old striker has never been able to hold down a place at a club for long after he was released by Blackburn Rovers last summer. Most recently he was on a short term deal with Chesterfield and after that was ended, he has signed a contract of undisclosed length with the Pilgrims.

This move for Slew would have been helped by the fact he was worked with Plymouth manager Derek Adams before. He had a loan spell with Adams’ Ross County back in 2014 and while he only scored once in 20 games then, he was obviously impressed with the striker enough to sign him again on a permanent deal.

Since leaving Sheffield United in 2011 in what he had hoped would be a big move to Blackburn Rovers, Slew’s issue has always been putting the ball in the back of the net, despite being able to cause problems with his pace and strength. Since leaving Bramall Lane five years ago, Slew has only scored five goals, a rate of a goal a year.

Now though he will hope to end that bad run after signing for Plymouth.
