Leeds United: first ten games could be key

A good start to the season often sets up a team for a successful campaign. A bad start often sees the opposite, dejection from game one.

This coming season, Leeds United’s first ten games could very well be key to getting their 2016/17 Championship campaign off to a good start as they look to aim for a more consistent brand of football.

Using the ‘outright odds’ from SkyBet (as of 19:00 on 21.07.16), I have split the Championship into three categories: 14/1 or shorter, between 15/1 and 40/1 and 41/1 or longer. I suppose a more basic way of looking at the division is hard (expect a loss), almost equally matched (could go either way) and easier (should be looking for a win).

The Whites don’t have the easyish opening of say Fulham who, after a hard start against Championship 7/4 title favourites Newcastle United, face three teams mooted to finish lowly in the table in Preston (80/1), Blackburn (80/1) and newly-promoted Burton Albion (250/1) in their opening 10 games. Conversely, they don’t have the hellish opening of relegation favourites Burton Albion who face four games in their opening 10 against teams predicted to finish near the top of the table.
