Premier League new boys target signing of Villa striker

Newly promoted Premier League club Burnley are thought to be weighing up a move for Aston Villa striker Rudy Gestede according to the Birmingham Mail.

The Clarets are already showing an interest in Villa midfielder Ashley Westwood and are now said to also be considering a swoop for team-mate Gestede.

The 27 year old Frenchman has endured a less than impressive spell at Villa Park since joining the club from Blackburn Rovers 11 months ago for a reported £6 million transfer fee. Gestede netted six goals in 25 appearances for Villa and it is not known whether the striker would favour a move away from the club to further his career.

Gestede started his career in his homeland with Metz before joining Cardiff City in summer 2011 after a successful trial in South Wales. The player went on to score nine goals in 63 appearances for The Bluebirds.

The striker left Cardiff City in January 2014 to join Blackburn Rovers and Gestede went on to enjoy a successful stint at Ewood Park scoring 35 goals in 73 appearances for Rovers.

After witnessing bitter Lancashire rivals Blackburn Rovers reap the rewards of the French striker, Burnley are now thought to be looking to land the player as they aim to avoid an immediate return to the Championship in May after last season’s title success.
