Latics confirm capture of big defender

Wigan Athletic have completed the signing of Fulham defender Dan Burn according to Sky Sports.

The72 had reported earlier today that a deal for the 24 year old centre half was being lined up with the player set to leave Fulham next week and the Lancashire club have now confirmed that a deal has been completed and Burn will officially become a Wigan Athletic player on 1 July.

Burn has been searching for a new club since being told by Fulham that he was no longer required by the club at the end of the season. The big defender has made 69 appearances for The Cottagers and has scored twice since joining the club five years ago.

Burn joined Fulham from Darlington back in 2011 for a transfer fee believed to be in the region of £350,000. The player struggled to break into the Fulham first team when he first arrived at the club and was loaned out to Yeovil Town and Birmingham City to gain first team experience before becoming a more regular fixture in The Cottagers’ starting line up.

After learning that he would be leaving Craven Cottage this summer, Burn had been widely tipped to join League 1 promotion hopefuls Sheffield United however The Blades’ manager Nigel Adkins was sacked at the end of last season ending the club’s interest in signing the player and the defender has now opted for a move to Wigan Athletic.
