Aston Villa midfielder set for Premier League return

Aston Villa’s Ashley Westwood may be about to return to the Premier League quicker than expected as Burnley look likely to swoop for him according to report from the Express & Star.

The 27-year-old midfielder has been at Villa since he signed from Crewe Alexandra back in 2013 but following the club’s relegation from the Premier League, Burnley have decided to make an approach to sign him.

However the Clarets are only willing to make a bid for Westwood as long as he is willing to take a cut on his £35,000 a week wages, and right now it is unclear if he is willing to do so for the chance to continue to play in the Premier League.

Villa’s new head coach Roberto Di Matteo is also keen not to sell any of his squad until he he gets to know them in pre-season training. Even so, it has been reported that Westwood is one of the players that he will want to keep around so even if Burnley could persuade Westwood to take a pay cut, there will still be a fight on to persuade him to move to Turf Moor.

It has also been reported that Aston Villa have received enquiries from Celtic for Stuart Sinclair.
