Newcastle & Aston Villa among 4 interested in Reading midfielder

The Daily Mail reports that four clubs have enquired over the possibility of signing Reading midfielder Danny Williams. Swansea, Newcastle, Aston Villa and Sunderland are all interested in the 20-cap American.

The 27-year-old, who is German-born, moved to the Madejski Stadium in June 2013 from Hoffenheim. He signed a four-year deal, but it remains to be seen if he will see that out.

The Royals are now managed by Dutchman Jaap Stam. He will be keen to keep the player at the club as they look to build a promotion challenging team next season.

Since moving to the club, he has played over 80 times, scoring ten goals in the process. Last season, he played 48 matches for both club and country. The hard-working midfielder is a real box-to-box type and would kit in nicely with most teams.

He has clearly done enough to impress Roberto Di Matteo, Sam Allardyce, Rafa Benitez and Francesco Guidolin as well. It remains to be seen if these initial enquires will lead to concrete bids.

Williams has spent three seasons with the Berkshire-club but may want to challenge himself elsewhere. He has recently lost his place in the US Mens National Team and maybe a move to the Premier League could be in his interests. Nevertheless, there are plenty of clubs in the race to snap him up this summer.
