Leeds United target available on a price cut offer

Leeds United continue to be linked with numerous players from all divisions of football. Yesterday they were reported to still be keen on former loanee Liam Bridcutt, who has returned to parent club Sunderland.

The Sunderland Echo say that there is movement there that might benefit the Whites. Writing that the player “has absolutely no future at the Stadium of Light”, the Echo say that Leeds’ interest could well help Sunderland remove him from their wage bill.

Bridcutt, who didn’t feature for the Black Cats last season, made 27 appearances on loan at Elland Road. Such was the level of commitment and consistency that he displayed, he became a crowd favourite to many.

According to the Echo’s report, £2.5m signing Bridcutt had a price tag of £1m put on his head a year ago. Leeds are thought to have baulked at this figure but the Echo go on to say that a lower offer may tempt the Premier League side’s resolve.

The Wearside publication says that “a bid of around £500,000 would probably be acceptable now” for Bridcutt, with them saying that the recalled-Scotland international has many admirers in the Championship.

One stumbling block that they do point out is whether Leeds could get the player to agree personal terms. As they rightly point out, defensive midfielder Bridcutt is on a significantly higher wage than the top earners at Elland Road.

Should this be an obstacle that Leeds can negotiate, then the signature and arrival of Liam Bridcutt to Elland Road will likely be seen as a hugely positive one by fans.

It remains to be seen whether Leeds United are firmly interested in Bridcutt or whether their transfer priorities lay elsewhere. The Whites have made one signing so far this summer, bringing in Swedish striker Marcus Antonsson from Allsvenskan side Kalmar.
