Danish defender wants to fight on at Villa

Aston Villa centre half Jores Okore wants to stay at the club and fight for his place next season according to the Birmingham Mail.

The 23 year old Danish defender looked set to leave Villa Park this summer after falling out with caretaker manager Eric Black in April with the player refusing a place on the substitutes bench for a match against AFC Bournemouth. Okore’s Villa career looked to be coming to an end as the player also refused to be considered for the club’s remaining fixtures during the 2015/2016 season.

Despite the tension between the player and his club, Okore is now looking forward to a brighter future at Villa Park under new boss Roberto Di Matteo as the Midlands club prepare to mount a challenge for promotion in the championship.

Okore joined Aston Villa in summer 2013 from Danish club Nordsjaelland for a transfer fee believed to be in the region of £4 million. The defender has gone on to make 46 appearances for the club and has scored once.

The Danish international has a year remaining on his deal at Villa Park and Okore has confirmed that while there has been interest from other clubs he has told them that he is only interested in furthering his career at Aston Villa.

Aston Villa begin their Championship campaign at Sheffield Wednesday on Sunday 7 August.
