Celtic interested in Aston Villa forward but no bid so far

The Birmingham Mail understands that Scottish giants Celtic are hoping to sign Aston Villa’s Scott Sinclair. However, there has yet to be a formal offer sanctioned for the ex-Chelsea youngster.

During his time at Swansea City, Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers worked with Sinclair. He was a key player with the Welsh club, helping them gain promotion into the Premier League.

Rodgers is believed to have initially enquired about the 27-year-old. However no official bid has been made. There were reports of £2million being brandished. They are believed to be untrue.

It was a difficult season for everyone at Aston Villa last season. The former Manchester City man scored just twice in their relegation campaign. He did however manage to score four goals in the League Cup.

Sinclair’s career has somewhat stagnated in recent times. His exploits at Swansea earned him a move to Man City for just over £6million. Of his 13 Premier League appearances at the Etihad, 11 came as a substitute. Since then, he was spent time on loan at West Brom and Villa, before making that permanent.

Rodgers is a former Chelsea youth coach himself, so will be more than aware of the qualities Sinclair possesses. Perhaps he can get something out of him that others can’t. Of course, Roberto Di Matteo will have his own say on the matter. He may want to keep Sinclair at Villa Park. He is proven in the Championship after all. Then again, reuniting with Rodgers and joining a guaranteed title challenger could be an attractive proposition. Di Matteo too will have worked with Sinclair before.
