Bristol City striker target tweets transfer update

Lee Tomlin, a rumoured transfer target of Bristol City, has tweeted that there has been no official bid from the Championship club. The AFC Bournemouth striker ended last season on loan at Ashton Gate.

The 27-year-old fired in six goals for the Robins last season as they secured Championship safety.

Earlier this month, the BBC confirmed that Bristol City were in discussions with the Premier League striker over a permanent contract. The player himself now states no formal offer has been submitted.

Of course, the forward remains under contract with Bournemouth. That does not expire until 2018 and they paid Middlesbrough a decent sum to sign him. Therefore his signing would not come cheap. That is in relation to transfer fee and most likely wages as well.

Head Coach Lee Johnson hasn’t hid from the fact that he would love to bring the player back to the club next season. He says he wants a few more signings, but is happy with his summer dealings so far,

“It’s difficult for me to talk about it because he’s (Tomlin) a Bournemouth player.

“I’d be upset if other clubs were talking about our players. All I’ll say is, everybody knows he was loved here.

“I enjoyed working with him and if there is ever an opportunity to bring a player of that quality in, of course we’d be interested.

“He had a fantastic spell. If it becomes possible, we’ll certainly be at the front of the queue.”

“I’d like to have had one or two (more) but we’re certainly in the mix for three or four.

“It’s just a case of ‘can we get them over the line?’ But of course there is serious competition, because we’re after good players.”

Later this week, next seasons fixtures are released. That is when it really hits home for fans that the next season is not far away. The question is, will Lee Tomlin be a Bristol City player?
