Bristol City join Leeds in race for Premier League striker

Bristol City have joined the race to sign Manchester United striker Ashley Fletcher. The Bristol Post understands that the striker is keeping his options open as several clubs queue up to sign him.

Wolverhampton Wanderers, Leeds United and Barnsley are all interested in snapping the player up. It is also believed he has been offered a new contract at Old Trafford. He spent part of last season out on loan at Barnsley, winning promotion to the Championship.

The Robins link to Fletcher isn’t a major shock. It was in fact ex-Barnsley manager Lee Johnson who took him to Oakwell in January. Johnson would leave shortly afterwards to take on the role at Ashton Gate at the level above.

The 20-year-old fired in eight goals in 15 starts last season during his successful loan spell. He has yet to play Championship football, but many believe he is ready to make the step up.

Even if he signs a new Red Devils contract, he is likely to be heading out on loan again. New manager Jose Mourinho is not known for bringing through a flurry of youngsters at his previous clubs.

There are certainly many looking to sign up the highly-rated forward, who many are comparing to Marcus Rashford. He may need to prove himself at the league below if his parent club are to be truly convinced by his overall potential.
