Fleetwood Town sign Hartlepool United full back

Fleetwood Town have completed the signing of Hartlepool United full back Michael Duckworth according to the Blackpool Gazette.

The 24 year old Germany born defender has opted to leave the North East to further his football career after suffering from an injury plagued 2015/2016 campaign which saw the player sustain an abdominal strain while Duckworth also had to undergo a hernia operation.

Duckworth is a product of York City’s academy but the player failed to make a senior appearance for The Minstermen and left the club at the end of a two year scholarship at Bootham Crescent.

The full back dropped into non league football to start his career with Duckworth playing for Harrogate Railway Athletic and Bradford Park Avenue before signing for Hartlepool United in August 2013 after a successful trial with the club.

Duckworth excelled during his time at Victoria Park with the player making 94 appearances during a three year spell with the club, scoring four goals. The player developed into an excellent young full back during his time in the North East and the move to Highbury now provides Duckworth with the opportunity to test himself at League 1 level.

Fleetwood Town finally secured the player’s services yesterday following Duckworth’s return from holiday after waiting a number of weeks to speak with the player.
