Fleetwood Town sign Hartlepool defender

Fleetwood Town have signed Michael Duckworth from Hartlepool United on a free transfer as confirmed by the club website.

The Cod Army have been tracking the 24-year-old full back for a number of months now and they took the opportunity to sign him up on a contract of undisclosed length following him being out of contract.

Hartlepool have had a few impressive youngsters break into the first team in recent years and Duckworth was one of them. After making his debut back in August 2013, coincidentally against Fleetwood, he has gone on to make over 100 appearances for the team and has been key to the team throughout his three years at Victoria Ground.

After completing the transfer, Duckworth said: “I enjoy getting forward as a full back,”

“I have spoken to the manager and he told me he wants the full backs to push on. I am an attack minded full back so it suits me perfectly.”

“I have spent the last three seasons at Hartlepool United. They signed me from non-league side Bradford PA. I will always be grateful to Hartlepool for giving me my chance to play professional football.”

“But now I am ready for the start of a new chapter. This is a step forward and I want to progress. We have signed a couple of new players already this summer which is great.”

Duckworth started his career at York City but was released as a youngster and had to play for non-league clubs such as Harrogate Railway and Bradford Park Avenue before getting back into the Football league by signing for Hartlepool.
