Preston keeping an eye on former loan star

Preston North End are keeping an eye on the availability of Sheffield Wednesday’s Marnick Vermijl according to a report from the Lancashire Evening Post.

The 24-year-old defender spent last season on loan with the Lilywhites and went on to make 32 appearances and scored twice. While he was often forced to sit out of matches due to being behind Calum Woods in the pecking order, he still impressed the Preston management during his spell there.

And now that Vermijl has returned to Sheffield Wednesday after his loan ended at Deepdale, Preston are keeping an eye on his situation in case the Owls want to sell the Belgian defender. It is expected that Wednesday will try to sell the full back as they currently have good options at right back with Jack Hunt and Liam Palmer but this report suggests that they will be demanding a fee from any team that wants to sign him.

The former Belgian youth international never really settled at Hillsborough after signing in February 2015, only making 11 appearances in the second half of that season and then being shipped out on loan last summer. However he still has some pedigree which will attract plenty of interested clubs having played for the likes of Manchester United in the past.
