Newcastle given hands-off for on fire striker

With reports of Newcastle striker Aleksander Mitrovic potentially leaving, Newcastle are looking for a replacement.

“Mitro’s on fire” was sung on the St James’ terraces at the backend of last season, so if you’re going to replace him, getting Will Grigg seems to be the obvious choice.

However, Wigan have told Newcastle they will have to look elsewhere to sign a replacement, after Grigg’s 28 goal haul last year according to the Shields Gazette.

Grigg is currently away with Northern Ireland at the Euro’s and will be celebrating yesterday’s win over Ukraine with his team mates.

Newcastle are not the first side to reportedly be interested in Grigg and will likely not be the last in what will be a long summer for Wigan fans.

The forward has two years left on his deal at Wigan, who spent the best part of a million pounds to sign the striker a year ago, so it would take a big offer from Newcastle to pry him away from the DW.

Worryingly, however, Brentford sold him after just four goals in 34 games at Championship and League One level, so there is certainly a cause for concern about how he would perform in different systems and environments.
