Gillingham sign former Bantams midfielder

Gillingham have completed the signing of former Bradford City midfielder Billy Knott on a free transfer according to Kent Online.

The 23 year old Canvey Island born midfielder has signed a two year deal with The Gills after recently being released by Bradford City.

The former Sunderland apprentice is a player who boasts high energy and has a real chance of becoming a fans’ favourite during his stay at Priestfield Stadium.

Knott made 79 appearances for former club Bradford City during a two year stint at Valley Parade and scored eight goals for the West Yorkshire club. The midfielder contributed towards The Bantams’ run to the League 1 Play Offs last season while the player also featured in FA Cup giant-killings over Chelsea and Sunderland during his time at the club.

The midfielder joined Bradford City in May 2014 after failing to break his way into the first team at Premier League club Sunderland. Knott made just one first team appearance for The Black Cats and was regularly loaned out to gain further first team experience.

Knott becomes Gillingham’s second signing in quick succession after the Kent club completed the signing of Newport County midfielder Mark Byrne yesterday. The Gills will be looking to build a solid push for promotion next season after falling away from the top six towards the end of last season.
