Ipswich Town set to miss out on former Bolton winger

Ipswich Town are set to miss out on the signing of former Bolton Wanderers winger Liam Feeney, according to the Ipswich Star.

Feeney spent part of last season on loan at Ipswich from Bolton Wanderers but it looks like the winger will not be returning to Portman Road.  Instead, Blackburn Rovers are said to be leading the chase.

The winger began his career playing for non-league teams before signing for Bournemouth in 2009.  Feeney made 121 appearances for the club and won promotion to League One before leaving for Championship side Millwall in 2011.

After a couple of loan spells to Bolton Wanderers and Blackburn Rovers, Feeney was released by Millwall in 2014 and signed for Bolton permanently.

The midfielder went on to make 78 league appearances for Bolton before being loaned to Ipswich Town in March of this year.  Feeney is currently without a club and Ipswich boss Mick McCarthy was reportedly keen on bringing the winger back to Portman Road on a permanent basis.

New Blackburn Rovers boss Owen Coyle is also keen on Feeney however, and looks to have won the race for his services with Ipswich set to miss out.

Coyle has a re-building job on his hands at Blackburn and needs to sign players fast to be reading for the new season.  However the Scot must ensure he makes the correct decisions for the club.

Blackburn Rovers fans didn’t get to see much of Feeney when he joined the club on loan in 2014, with the winger making mostly substitute appearances.  If this deal goes through, they could be about to get to know Feeney a lot better.
