No approach from Hamburg for Magpies midfielder

Newcastle United are yet to receive any approach from German club Hamburg for the services of want-away midfielder Moussa Sissoko according to the Chronicle.

Reports in the French media earlier indicated that the Bundesliga outfit were the first club to lodge a formal bid for the 26 year old French international however sources close to Newcastle United have since confirmed that no offer has been made.

Sissoko has recently expressed his desire to leave Tyneside following the club’s relegation to the Championship although Magpies boss Rafa Benitez is insistent that the player will only be sold on the club’s terms.

The midfielder joined Newcastle United from Toulouse in January 2013 for a transfer fee believed to be in the region of £1.5 million with the player signing a six and a half year deal with the club. Sissoko has gone on to make 133 appearances during his time in the North East and has scored 12 goals.

One of Sissoko’s highlights during his time at St James’ Park was his crucial goal against West Ham United on the final day of the 2014/2015 season which helped The Magpies secure Premier League safety however the Frenchman’s contribution last season was not enough to save the club from the dreaded drop once again.

It is thought that Sissoko is hoping to remain in the English Premier League and the player has recently been linked with a move to Arsenal. The midfielder openly admits that he hopes to join a club competing in the Champions League next season.
