Charlton’s chances of signing midfielder hit ZERO

It is understood that Colchester United have accepted bids from both Barnsley and Peterborough despite interest from Charlton Athletic for George Moncur, according to local reports.

The highly rated midfielder George Moncur has been on Charlton and Slade’s hit list for the summer transfer window for a while.

In the last few weeks, Charlton has attempted to make two bids for the midfielder, and has seen both of them rejected.

Barnsley also made two bids for the midfielder, and saw their first two rejected also, but it is apparent that the third one, has met the demands of Colchester United.

However since Charlton’s initial bids, another team has thrown their hat in the ring, that team being Peterborough United, who have seen their first bid also be accepted for George Moncur.

It is understood that Director of Football at Peterborough United, Barry Fry, has confirmed that a verbal agreement has been reached with the midfielder, regarding personal terms for him to play at the ABAX stadium next season.

This now means that Charlton Athletic’s chances of securing the services of the popular midfielder next season for the tough League One campaign ahead, have significantly dwindled.

The current situation puts pressure on Charlton Athletic to offer Colchester United a significant financial package, one higher than both other clubs within a very short time frame, if there is to be any chance of him coming to the Valley next season.
