Ipswich eye move for transfer-listed League One defender

The East Anglian Daily Times reports that Championship side Ipswich Town are considering a move for Sheffield United right back Kieron Freeman. The defender is on the transfer list at Bramall Lane and Mick McCarthy could look to bring him to Portman Road.

McCarthy elected to play Luke Chambers at right back for practically all of last season, but he is a centre back by trade and has frequently spoken of his hope to move back into his preferred and stronger position.

Freeman was made available for transfer with the League One side by new manager Chris Wilder, who also placed several more first-team players as open to offers shortly after he entered the club after leaving League Two champions Northampton Town.

24-year-old Freeman spent time out on loan at Portsmouth last season. He is said to have caught the eye of Ipswich as they sent a scout to watch all of their games as Matt Clarke was on loan at Fratton Park. Clarke has since penned a permanent move to the League Two Play-Off Semi-Finalists, whilst Adam Webster has made the move from Pompey to Ipswich as well.

Although only 24, Freeman has plenty of experience in the game and has played for several clubs in his short career. He came through the ranks at Nottingham Forest, and has also lined up for Derby County as well. A lot of his career has been spent out on loan with more clubs such as Notts County and Mansfield Town.
