5 England manager candidates from the Championship – what the odds say

Garry Monk – Leeds United (25/1)

There it is folks. Leeds United head coach Garry Monk is the most likely of all the current Championship managers to be the next England head coach. The interesting thing about this was that this was his price before he was named in the post at Leeds. So that has essentially done nothing to sway the market away from him.

Let us not kid ourselves. It is still an unlikely appointment! He is the tenth-highest name on the betting list and is the same price at the likes of Hull City boss Steve Bruce, ex-Manchester United manager David Moyes and Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino. Could you see any of them as England manager? Probably not. Of course, the betting means only so much, but Monk nevertheless is still quite high up.

Obviously his work at Swansea is why he is high up on the list. He was a young, English manager making his name in the Premier League, it was only natural he would be briefly linked. Now he has dropped into the Championship, and if he could be the man to bring Premier League football back to Elland Road then his price will certainly be much shorter than 25/1!

Let us just see what he does with Leeds first before we think about getting the biggest job in English football, but if that is a motivation for him, then so be it.
