Ex-Brighton loanee set for big European move

Joao Teixeira, who impressed during a loan spell with Brighton & Hove Albion in the 2014/15 season, is set to seal a transfer to Portuguese giants Porto, according to the Daily Star. The playmaker is out of contract at Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool and is now set to join the two-time European Cup winners.

The 23-year-old also had the briefest of loan spells with Brentford, making just two substitute appearances, but it was his time at the Amex where people really began to take notice of him.

He joined the club in August 2014, signed by long-time Liverpool stalwart Sami Hyypia, who was managing the Seagulls at the time. He went on to impress with his dazzling displays and tricky skills with the ball at his feet. At the end of the season he was handed the Club Young Player of the Year Award. A broken leg cut short his season in April.

The Braga-born youngster struggled to earn regular game time during his time at Anfield. Last season he was handed a few opportunities to play in the cup competitions, but in the end he only made two league appearances as a substitute, including his debut in February 2014.

Italian Serie A side Fiorentina were also said to have spoken with the player, but he has his heart set on a return to Portugal. During his youth days, he came through the ranks at hometown club Braga and also Sporting Lisbon.

Just for the Brighton fans, the video below is just a little reminder of the time he spent on loan with the club.
