Bolton confirm Parkinson appointed manager

Bolton Wanderers have officially confirmed the appointment of Phil Parkinson as their new manager. The 48-year-old leaves his role as Bradford City manager after the two clubs agreed compensation. He signs a two-year contract at the Macron Stadium.

Parkinson will also be joined as the club by Steve Parkin, who will serve as his assistant manager, a role he held at Bradford City. A press conference will take place later on Friday.

Parkinson’s appointment brings to an end three months of speculation surrounding who will be the permanent successor to Neil Lennon with the Trotters. The likes of Brian McDermott, Steve Cotterill, Nigel Adkins and Peter Reid to name just a few, have all been linked with the vacancy.

The Chorley-born man spent most of his playing career at Reading, where he played over 350 times, however he enjoyed a lengthy spell at Bury prior to this.

He made his first steps into management with Colchester United in 2003 and in 2006 he hided them into the Championship against all of the odds. He resigned shortly afterwards to take the job at Hull City, only to leave a few months later by mutual consent. He managed over 100 times for Charlton Athletic, during which time the club were relegated and then lost in the play-offs the following year. The move to Bradford proved to be a very productive one, gaining promotion, reaching the League One play-offs and also the League Cup final.
