Loaning Man Utd striker on Jackett’s Wolves wish list

Wolverhampton Wanderers are hoping to sign Manchester United striker James Wilson on loan this summer, according to The Express & Star. Wolves head coach Kenny Jackett is said to be a long-time admirer of the player and was impressed with how he performed on loan at Brighton last season.

The 20-year-old spent over half of the season at the Amex, and although he only scored five goals, he generally made a big impact whenever he played, and was a regular substitute.

Wilson is said to be available for loan, with recently appointed Old Trafford boss Jose Mourinho keen for the youngster to gain more first-team opportunities to aid his development. This has alerted Jackett, who is desperately hoping to add more goals to a team that scored just 53 goals last season, less than the likes of Fulham, Huddersfield Town and Bristol City, who finished just above the drop zone.

The red side of Manchester club are said to want Wilson to start more games next season and a move to Molineux should see that wish granted. Wilson isn’t the only forward Jackett is said to have targeted this summer. Idrissa Sylla, Nathael Julan, Adam Armstrong and Patrick Bamford are just four names touted with a move to the club.

With competition for places at Man Utd likely to be tough next season, especially with Mourinho likely to spend big and the emergence of Marcus Rashford, dropping back into the Championship seems like a wise move for Wilson, and Wolves could be his next destination.
