Antenucci

Agent confirms Parma contact for Leeds United striker

Although still technically a Leeds United player, Mirco Antenucci has been officially informed by the club that he will not be offered a new contract beyond the end of his current one, which expires at the end of this month; this effectively leaving him open to contact from other teams.

Much has been made of the interest that Antenucci’s release from Elland Road has generated with domestic teams such as Birmingham City, Wolverhampton Wanderers and newly-promoted Wigan Athletic said to be keeping an eye on the bearded Italian.

However, it is thought that his heart lies in a return home to Italy and he has many reputed suitors in his homeland including Avellino, Hellas Verona, Pescara and Benevento who have all expressed an interest in bringing the free agent to their respective clubs as well.

The latest Italian team to make contact are Parma, a club that went bankrupt and now ply their trade in the Lega Pro division – the third tier of Italian domestic football. TUTTOmercatoWEB announced yesterday that Parma “has broken through the inertia” and that “concrete contacts” had been established for the 19-goal, two-season, former Leeds United player.

Speaking to TUTTOmercatoWEB, Mirco Antenucci’s agent, Silvio Pagliari said: “it is true I spoke with Parma [Antenucci] is an important goal for Appoloni [Parma’s current manager] but we have no hurry.”

Going on, Pagliari stresses the strong position that Antenucci finds himself in when it comes to the interest in him from other teams with the agent saying: “After all we are talking about a player appreciated by several teams from Serie B with a background of a certain level.”

When asked about whether his client would consider a drop below Serie B level and into the Lega Pro, Pagliari restressed the fortuitous position that they find themselves in with other teams being interested. On this, Silvio Pagliari said simply: “I repeat, we have no hurry. The player is on the market and free from constraints of any kid for the future. We will calmly evaluate every opportunity and then we will take the best decision for his future.”
