Charlton reject bid for goalkeeper from premier League club

Charlton Athletic have rejected a bid from Burnley for Nick Pope according to a report from the South London Press.

While he started off the season behind Stephen Henderson in the pecking order, Pope soon became the number one and while the Addicks continued to struggle as they tumbled into League 1, the goalkeeper was able to impress in a number of games.

Those performances though haven’t gone unnoticed and Burnley had placed a bid for Pope as they looked to get some top quality back up for their current number Tom Heaton who is currently in France with the rest of the England squad ahead of Euro 2016.

And while Charlton have given Burnley a clear hands off warning, the Clarets are set to return with another bid in the near future as they aim to use their Premier League funds to try and lure Pope away from the Valley. The question now is if new Charlton manager Russell Slade can persuade Pope to stay and help the South London club get back into League 1 or if he’ll decide to move and play for a Premier League side.

Pope started his career in non-league before earning a move to Charlton in 2011. After getting experience on loan spells to clubs such as Cambridge United and York City, he finally broke into the Addicks first team this season.
