Huddersfield Town bring Paurevic onboard – all you need to know

Very few Huddersfield Town fans will have heard of Russian side FK Ufa; even fewer will have heard of German-Croat midfielder Ivan Paurevic. However, Town head coach David Wagner has, according to the club website, dipped into the Russian market to sign the 6ft 5″ midfielder to the John Smith Stadium.

As written about on The72 earlier, the 24-year-old Croatian is mainly a central midfielder, but can also fill in at centre back. The 6ft 5″ performer previously worked with Huddersfield Head Coach David Wagner at Borussia Dortmund.

Speaking on the club website, Wagner said of Paurevic:

“He’s a great team player, with good technique and football intelligence. He’s also a good physical presence in the middle of the pitch.

“Just as importantly, I know he is a great character from our time together at Dortmund. He will fit into our group very well.”

Here’s a few things about the 24-year-old, Essen-born Paurevic.

Paurevic, his clubs and transfers.

After starting out as a junior at local club Rot Weiss Essen, Paurevic moved on to the Borussia Dortmund youth set-up – graduating to Dortmund’s Under-17s at the start of their 2007/08 campaign. In 23 Under-17 games for the German side he scored five goals, moving up to the Under-19s a year later.

Whilst in the Dortmund Under-19 set-up, the rangy central midfielder made 34 appearances, scoring 11 times and laying on three assists. On July 1 2010, Dortmund promoted Paurevic to the second team where he played 44 games, scoring twice and laying on two assists for teammates. Never quite making it to the first team squad at Dortmund, a July 1 2012 free transfer saw him leave for fellow German side Fortuna Düsseldorf.

At Düsseldorf he made 22 appearances for the first team (two assists) and 11 games for the second string (two goals). A little over two years after arriving at the German side, on July 16 2014 Paurevic found himself moving again, this time on a free transfer to FK Ufa who finished 16th in Russia’s Premier League last season. Since arriving at FK Ufa, the four-cap Croatian Under-21 made 61 appearances for the Russians, scoring five times and providing four assists.
