Newcastle winger reveals he wants to leave the club

Newcastle United’s Moussa Sissoko has revealed in comments to French website Foot Mercato that he wants to leave the club.

The 26-year-old winger joined the Magpies from Toulouse as part of the huge influx of French players that happened under previous manager Alan Pardew. Since then he has ingrained himself into the Newcastle first team and has gone on to make 113 appearances and scored 12 goals.

However following their relegation to the Championship, Sissoko has admitted that he now wants to leave the club in order to preserve his chances of getting into the French national team. He will be playing in what is sure to be a historic tournament for France in the Euros on home turf this summer but he fears that if he starts playing in the second tier of English football his chances of returning to the squad are slim.

And Sissoko is also ambitious of where he will go next, saying he would love to join a team in England which plays Champions League football which is a possibility after Arsenal was linked.

Sissoko said: “Today, if I played in the Championship, I would put my place with the French national team in jeopardy and in terms of many other things.”

“I have already had a discussion with him (Rafa Benitez). My advisors will also have a discussion with him. I think that he knows what I want, where I want to go.”

“So I hope that there will not be a problem for me to go and enjoy myself at another club.”

“Arsenal is one of the best European teams. To be watched by that sort of club, that proves that you are a quality player. It is good to know. I hope that I will have the chance, soon, to play for this club or for a similar club.”
