Lafferty injured in Northern Ireland training

Norwich striker Kyle Lafferty has limped out of Northern Ireland training and may now miss their Euro 2016 opener against Poland on Sunday.

The extent of the injury is unknown, but it has been reported as a groin injury and Lafferty has immediately been put into an ice bath as the Northern Ireland staff try and get him in shape to play this summer.

Lafferty had a huge role to play in Northern Ireland’s unlikely qualification, scoring seven times, but may now have to sit out the first game of the Euro’s.

On a positive note, however, he seemed in ‘no obvious distress’ leaving the training session and as such the injury is not expected to be a serious one.

The powerful forward spent the end of last season on loan at Birmingham, where he scored once in six appearances as the season petered out for Gary Rowett’s side.

Lafferty may be available this summer after failing to impress at Norwich and could use this summer to put himself in the shop window.

Birmingham may be unlikely to make a move for the forward, however, after he failed to impress to the level he has on the international stage, and his high wages.
