Elliott leaves Bristol City after coaching restructure

As part of their restricting of the coaching staff at the football club, Bristol City have confirmed that Under-21 boss Wade Elliott will leave the club this summer. The 37-year-old also ended his playing career at Ashton Gate, where he won two domestic honours during his stay.

In total, Elliott played 61 times for the club before making the progression onto the coaching setup. However Lee Johnson is now looking to change various aspects of their coaching, eresulting in the departure of Elliott.

Johnson confirmed that Elliott moves on following ‘detailed discussions’ and that he wanted to thank him for his service to the football club,

“I thoroughly enjoyed my brief spell working with Wade. He’s been a fantastic servant for the club and I wish him the very best of luck in his future career.”

Chief Operating Officer Mark Ashton also provided his views on the news, saying that Elliott has played a big role for the club both on and off the field,

“We’d like to place on record our thanks to Wade for his service, both as a player and on the coaching staff. We wish him all the best for the future.”

As captain, Elliott guided Bristol City to the League One title, as well as the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy title during Steve Cotterill’s final full season in charge.

The midfielder spent the majority of his playing career at AFC Bournemouth and then Burnley, playing over 200 times for each of those clubs. He has now made the transition into coaching, and he’ll be looking for a new role as soon as possible.
