Blues striker Donaldson makes Copa America debut

The striker played the full 90 minutes for The Reggae Boyz but was unable to find the back of the net in Chicago leaving Jamaica with an uphill task to qualify from the group stages of the competition with both Mexico and Uruguay yet to play.

Bradford born Donaldson made the decision to play for Jamaica in April 2015 with the player qualifying to play for the nation through his parents. The striker has netted two goals so far on the international stage and has won six caps since making his debut in a 2018 World Cup Qualifying match against Panama back in November. Days later, Donaldson played in another 2018 World Cup Qualifying match against Haiti and scored his first international goal when he headed in from a corner kick.

Donaldson had to bide his time in football to build a successful career. After scoring on his senior debut for Hull City back in 2002, the striker failed to become a regular starter for The Tigers and had to drop into non league football with York City to launch his career. Donaldson went on to play for Hibernian, Crewe Alexandra and Brentford before signing for Birmingham City in summer 2014.

The striker has netted 27 goals in 89 appearances for The Blues and has established himself as an important member of the first team squad at St Andrews.
