New signings galore at Peterborough

It’s a huge time of change at the ABAX Stadium, and chairman Darragh MacAnthony has today announced four new signings who will be joining the club for the 2016/17 season.

MacAnthony made it clear that Posh needed strengthening defensively this season, and that’s exactly what he’s done.

On Twitter today, he confirmed that Posh have signed defenders Ryan Tafazolli and Andrew Hughes from League Two clubs.

Tafazolli is a centre back from Mansfield and Hughes a left back from Newport County.

Tafazoli’s had been linked with the Posh in recent months. Both he and Hughes are free transfers after their contracts at their previous clubs expired.

Tafazolli was awarded Mansfield player of the season last year. He has made 118 appearances and scored eight goals for his only Football League club.

Mansfield had offered their star defender a new deal, but Tafazolli thought it was time to move on.

It’s rumoured that other clubs in League One and the Championship were chasing his signature.

Hughes had been at Newport for his entire career and has made 151 appearances, scoring four goals.

As well as these two new signings, Posh have also appointed former Nottingham Forest striker Lee Glover as assistant manager.

It has also been confirmed that Grant McCann has re-appointed Ben Mackenzie as head of Sport Science at the club, following a short spell away from Posh.
