Winger rejects Crewe Alexandra and joins Carlisle United

Carlisle United have signed Jamie Devitt from Morecambe on a free transfer as confirmed by the club website.

The 25-year-old winger had been tracked by several clubs after it was announced he would be leaving Morecambe but Devitt decided to reject a potential move to Crewe and instead signed a two year deal with Carlisle.

Devitt isn’t the only winger to sign for Carlisle today. Earlier today Carlisle also confirmed the signing of Mansfield Town’s Reggie Lambe and Cumbrians boss Keith Curle will be hoping that his two new signings will be able to rip up the wings on both sides in the coming season.

After the deal was signed, Carlisle head of recruitment Lee Dykes said: “Jamie is a very talented individual who joins us on the back of a successful season on a personal level.

“Jamie was arguably one of the most effective players we faced last year, playing a big part in three of the four goals we conceded against Morecambe.

“He’s a forward thinking player who can create and score goals which is an area we have looked to strengthen as a priority in this transfer window.

“Jamie can play a number of positions across the top end of the pitch. We believe he can play a big part in driving the philosophy of the manager forward and helping us to build on the success we achieved last season.”

The former youth Republic of Ireland international came through the Hull City academy and while he was highly thought of there, he was eventually released in 2013. After being signed up by Chesterfield he failed to break into the first team and then ended up signing for Morecambe in 2014 after a successful loan spell.
