Leyton Orient sign Burton midfielder

Leyton Orient have signed Robbie Weir on a free transfer from Burton Albion as confirmed by the club website.

Weir has been part of the Brewers team as they made an incredible double promotion after finishing 2nd place in League 1 this season. However he found out that he would not be following the rest of the team into the Championship when he was announced to be released on the annual retain list at the end of the season.

But the midfielder wasn’t without a club for very long as he soon signed a two year contract with Leyton Orient and becomes the first signing of the recently appointed Andy Hessenthaler.

His main aim this season will be to add a bit extra to the midfield to hep Orient finish in a better position. Last year the O’s were expected to push for promotion after their relegation to League 2 and while they had a promising start, it soon all went off the rails and after two different managers were sacked they ended up finishing outside the play offs.

Weir started his career at Northern Irish club Larne before switching to Sunderland but never made a senior appearance for either. His professional career started in earnest when he was loaned out to York City, but he more appearances at Tranmere Rovers when he was able to make his loan there permanent. In 2012 he was released and picked up by Burton Albion who he helped to two promotions.
