Fleetwood Town set for huge windfall from Vardy’s move to Arsenal

Fleetwood Town are set to make £5 million if Jamie Vardy completes his move from Leicester City to Arsenal according to a report from the Daily Mail.

Following their promotion to the Football League in 2012, Fleetwood sold Vardy to the Foxes for a fee believed to be around £1m. Now that the striker has become an England international and helped Leicester become the most unlikely champions of England in a century, it seems like they sold him for too little.

But Fleetwood could be set for a massive payday. According to The Guardian, Arsenal have activated a release clause in Vardy’s contract which is around the £20million mark and a clause from the initial sale from Fleetwood to Leicester could be about to help them.

According to reports from when Vardy was first linked with a move away from the King Power Stadium in January, Fleetwood have a 25% sell on clause from the transfer. This means that if the former Halifax Town forward completes his move to North London, the Cod Army will get a £5million boon from a deal made back in 2012.

The transfer is becoming increasingly likely after Arsenal agreed to meet the release clause and the most recent reports suggest the deal will be done in the next 24 hours.
