The 5 longest-serving Championship managers

Too often have we heard reports of countless records being broken as to managerial chances taking place across our beautiful game. Whilst it is natural managers will come and go, it is certainly important to recognise those who have been in their respective roles the longest.

In the Championship, the longest serving manager has held his post for over three years. In the English game overall, Arsene Wenger is miles clear as he approaches 20 years with Arsenal. His closest challenger is Exeter City’s Paul Tisdale, who is ten years behind!

We’ll give you a few minutes to gather your thoughts together and think who is the longest-serving Championship manager………

LONG ENOUGH!

Counting down from five to one, here are the longest-serving Championship managers (at the time of writing).

Chris Hughton (Brighton & Hove Albion)

Appointed: 31st December 2014

The former Newcastle United and Birmingham City boss is essentially a year-and-a-half into the job at the Amex Stadium. During that time he has mainly brought success to a degree. In 2015 he guided the club away from relegation concerns and ended the season safe from trouble.

The following year could be deemed as success in that they ended the season third in the table, a significant improvement on the past season. They lost out to Middlesbrough in the battle for second place, and then lost the battle with Sheffield Wednesday over two legs for a place in the play-off final. They will certainly come back stronger.

57-year-old Hughton is in his fourth managerial job, having also took charge of Norwich City for a few seasons. He has won manager of the month on eight occasions at this level and will be hoping to win a few more next season, indicating they are winning plenty of matches along the way.
