Preston enquire availability of Welsh international winger

Preston North End have made an enquiry for highly-rated Southampton youngster Lloyd Isgrove. The Lancashire Evening Post understands that although there is firm interest, there has not been an official bid lodged at this stage.

The 23-year-old impressed in a loan move with Barnsley last season, and played a major part in their run to and eventually victory in the League One Play-Off Final. He has made six appearances in the Southampton first-team to date.

Although born in Yeovil, Isgrove qualifies to play for Wales, and already has caps at both senior and Under-21 level. The majority of his first-team football has come from his Barnsley loan spell, although he has had shorter stints at both Sheffield Wednesday an Peterborough United in the past.

The winger was on the score-sheet at Wembley last Sunday as caretaker manager Paul Heckingbottom’s side defeated Millwall 3-1. Highlights can be seen in the video below:

Simon Grayson is looking to bolster his Preston squad this summer and make a serious challenge on a play-off position, in what is set to be another typically competitive Championship division.

Isgrove fits the DNA for the type of player that he loves to work with, but the question is if Southampton plan on using him in their first-team. Ronald Koeman, the Saints boss, has been backed into odds on favourite to become the next Everton manager. A managerial change could open the door up to Isgrove potentially play more at the St. Marys Stadium. Barnsley will probably show an interest as well, but Preston clearly are keen on a deal.
