Bristol City enter talks with former loan star

Bristol City have entered discussions with Lee Tomlin over a permanent move to Ashton Gate, according to the Bristol Post. The forward impressed whilst on loan from AFC Bournemouth last season and Lee Johnson is desperate to sign him long-term.

The former Middlesbrough and Peterborough United man scored six goals as helped guide the Robins away from the Championship relegation places. Rumours are circulated that a bid of £2.5million has been lodged.

The 27-year-old remains under contract at Dean Court for another two years but is said to be open to leaving, after failing to secure regular first-team football under Eddie Howe since signing from Middlesbrough in August 2015.

Howe is also said to be wanting to free up his squad as he looks to boost it with new signings of his own in order to avoid relegation back into the Championship and successfully surviving the drop last season.

Bristol City are not the only club said to be in the running to sign the ex-Rushden & Diamonds striker however. Newly-promoted Hull City, and recently relegated duo Newcastle United and Norwich City are all considering making a move for Tomlin.

Tomlin has rose through the divisions throughout his career and has played six Premier League games with Bournemouth, during the first half of last season. He then moved out on loan to Bristol City, where he scored six goals in 18 matches under Lee Johnson.

He is certainly a man in-demand this summer, but he clearly enjoyed his loan move last season and that could give Bristol City a slight head-start of the other clubs in the chasing pack.
