Bristol City boss set to raid former club Barnsley

Bristol City boss Lee Johnson is set to raid former club Barnsley this summer as he looks to put his own stamp on his new team, according to a report.

Johnson left Barnsley for Bristol in February but now wants to bring some of his old squad with him, after keeping Bristol City in the Championship with room to spare this season.

The first player that Johnson wants to re-sign is winger Adam Hammill.  Barnsley signed Hammill back in November and the midfielder was one of the club’s best performers this season as they were promoted to the Championship.

Hammill’s deal runs out at the end of this month and he could be tempted by a reunion with his former manager at Bristol City.

Johnson also wants to sign Preston North End midfielder Josh Brownhill, who spent the season on loan with Barnsley in League One.  Brownhill had a good season, playing 32 times in all competitions and scoring four goals.  It is understood that a deal to sign with Bristol City is close.

Defender Alfie Mawson is another name on Johnson’s list, with the centre back playing almost 60 games for Barnsley this season.  The defender has also chipped in with a massive seven goals for the club.  At 22 years old, Mawson looks to have a very bright future ahead of him.

It doesn’t seem to be just players that Johnson wants from Barnsley however, with one of the club’s Caretaker Managers, Tommy Wright, also someone Johnson wants at Bristol City.

Wright and Paul Heckingbottom were placed in charge of Barnsley in February following Johnson’s departure and led the club to promotion through the League One play-offs.
