Ex-Wolves Liam McAlinden signs for Exeter City

The 22 year old forward, Liam McAlinden has signed a 2 year contract for the League Two side Exeter City as a free transfer according to recent reports.

McAlinden came to the end of his contract with Wolverhampton Wanderers at the end of the season and Wolves decided not to renew for the campaign next season. However, Liam McAlinden has quickly found a new football league side to contribute to next season and call home, which is Exeter City.

The young forward is a product of the Wolverhampton Wanderers academy, but last season was only able to make 19 appearances for the main side, scoring a total of 2 goals in all competitions.

Last season he had two loan spells at two different football league sides, those being Shrewsbury and Crawley, making a total of 17 appearances between the two sides and scoring a total of 2 goals in all competitions.

It would seem that the forward was planning on being loaned out to Exeter City earlier last season, but was unable to finalise a deal.

The new Exeter City signing had the following comments:

“It was close in January – I was nearly coming here on loan and things didn’t quite work out.

“As soon as it came about that I was going to be available on a free in the summer, we got back in touch and we’ve got it done as soon as we could.”

McAlinden is the third summer signing for the side so far, with the first two being: Lloyd James and Robbie Simpson.
