Leeds United: Italian rule change could massively aid Bellusci sale

The Express report on a propsed rule change coming into Italian foortball that could very well ease the exit of defender Giuseppe Bellusci’s exit from Elland Road.

According to the newspaper, and referencing Calciomercato as their source, the Express say that four clubs in Sampdoria, Atalanta, Bolgona and Torino all all interested in taking the ex-Catania forward back to Italian soil.

Leeds United signed Italian defender Giuseppe Bellusci from Catania on an initial season-long loan deal that the Whites soon made permanent in August 2014.

Initially his guts-n’-glory style of play enamoured him to segments of Leeds United’s support as he lived up to his incoming nickname of ‘the Warrior’ – a style of play Leeds fans respond to well.

However, after a series of high-profile defensive errors and a strop where he stormed from the training ground at Thorp Arch, he was dropped by United head coach Steve Evans and a series of excuses were used to cover his absence.

The Express say that the rule change, where Serie A sides must have four youth players and four players with Italian experience in their squads. On this, website Football Italia said:

“[the rule] will come into full effect for the 2016/17 campaign, when all Serie A teams must present squad lists inclusive of eight players with a background in Italy.”

“Specifically, every team must include four players who spent at least three years, between the ages of 16 and 21, with the club’s youth team, and another four players who must have spent three years with any Italian club before reaching the age of 21. Both these categories may include foreigners, though in practice the vast majority of these players are likely to be Italian.”

The Express state that this “arrangement” could benefit any side looking to sell Italian players to Italian teams, with the newspaper going on to say that, “Leeds could get a bumper deal if they decide to sell the defender.”
