Charlton star discussing a move to Belgium

Igor Vetokele is in talks to transfer to the Belgian side, Sporting Lokeren for £1.5m according to recent local reports.

Vetokele has been in talks to move due to the Addicks’ relegation last season which has lead to a substantial cut in the available wages and funds for the South East London side next season, and a £1.5m transfer for the striker can help account for the reduction.

Vetokele first came to light as a potent striker when Bob Peeters was manager of Charlton, with the Angolan scoring 11 goals under the manager, and was seen as a catalyst at the front to produce goals.

However this season Vetokele has been riddled with injuries and has been unable to play, the last time the Addicks’ saw pure class from the striker was back in January when Charlton secured a 4 – 1 victory away at the New York Stadium against Rotherham.

The striker is one of the most expensive players at the club, and has had a serious conversation with the club, regarding the fact he can either stay but expect a wage cut or be transferred out, with the agreed decision clearly being the latter.

Charlton have still not appointed a new manger, and the role which Vetokele held at the front will need to be replaced with a cheaper alternative but still maintain a striker potency required for League One.
