Leeds United lose out on transfer target who opts to stay in Germany

According to Hannover’s official website, they have secured the signature of German midfielder Marvin Bakalorz and fought off interest from Leeds United.

Bakalorz had been with Paderborn in the second tier of German football but they finished rock bottom of the 2.Bundesliga this term – leading Bakalorz to seek pastures new.

Hannover themselves have suffered relegation at the end of this campaign as they finished bottom of the Bundesliga, resigning them to at least a season in Germany’s second tier.

Leeds United had been touted with interest in the midfielder who had been a mainstay in Paderborn’s team for the past two seasons and been the team’s captain for the majority of that time.

The former Borussia Dortmund man has instead opted to stay in his home country and it is believed that the managerial issues at Elland Road, with the uncertainty surrounding Steve Evans’ job still looming, could have played a part in Bakaorz’s decision.

If Paderborn had have survived the midfielder would have cost around £750,000, but a clause in his contract meant that due to the clubs relegation he was clear to leave on a free transfer.
