Ex-Bolton & Burnley boss odds-on favourite for Blackburn job

Owen Coyle, who left his role as head coach of Major League Soccer side Houston Dynamo last week, is now the heavy odds-on favourite to be appointed the next Blackburn Rovers manager.

Coyle exited his role with the American club to be closer to his family in the UK. The Scot has previously managed in the Lancashire area with both Burnley and Bolton Wanderers, and not too far away at Wigan Athletic in the past.

Names such as Alex McLeish, Neil Warnock, Warren Joyce, Keith Hill, Neil Redfearn, Russell Slade, Craig Hignett and Gareth Ainsworth have all been linked to the job at one point or another.

The 49-year-old has over 400 games of managerial experience to fall back upon, starting from his time at Falkirk and then St Johnstone in Scotland, before moving to England and then the United States.

During his time at Burnley, he guided the club into the Premier League via the play-offs in 2009. He enjoyed a win percentage of just over 40% during his time at Turf Moor.

His spell at the DW Stadium with Wigan proved to be less successful, after he was appointed in June 2013 and left the club a few months later in December. However he will clearly be keen to get back into English club management and not allow that role to tarnish what is quite a successful record.

Earlier today, his betting price was heavily shortened into 1/8 with some firms, leading to wide speculation that he will be the next Rovers boss. The Ewood Park club have been searching for a new manager after Paul Lambert elected to step down at the end of last season.
