Birmingham City consider move for Celtic striker

Championship club Birmingham City are considering a summer move for Celtic striker Anthony Stokes as Blues manager Gary Rowett looks to build a side capable of challenging for promotion next season according to the Birmingham Mail.

The 27 year old Dublin born striker has just one year remaining on his current deal at Celtic Park but new Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers could be set to sell the player as he looks to trim his squad to raise funds to bring in his own players.

It has been reported that Birmingham City are considering a bid for the striker while Scottish Championship club Hibernian remain hopeful of landing the striker on a permanent basis after a successful loan spell at Easter Road during the second half of the season. Stokes scored just nine goals in 25 appearances during his loan spell but his two goals in the Scottish Cup Final helped Hibernian end their 114 year wait to lift the famous trophy last weekend.

Birmingham City are looking to add firepower to their squad over the summer with Clayton Donaldson, Nicolai Brock-Madsen and James Vaughan currently the only strikers on the books at St Andrews.

The Blues scored just 53 goals in the Championship last season as the club finished 11 points adrift of the Play Off places and Anthony Stokes could be a man who will offer a more significant goal threat next season.
