Bantams release former Sunderland midfielder

Bradford City have announced the departure of midfielder Billy Knott from Valley Parade after two years.

A strong season for the Bantams saw them reach the Sky Bet League One play-offs before being knocked out 4-2 on aggregate by Millwall.

Over the course of a two-year spell in West Yorkshire, the versatile midfielder collected 79 appearances for Phil Parkinson’s side.

“The fans were brilliant from day one.”

The 23-year-old scored eight goals for the Bantams in that tenure, with his most memorable strike coming in the Capital One Cup victory over Leeds United in August 2014.

However, he has since found first-team chances limited in the second half of last season and failed to feature in the play-off semi-finals against Millwall.

The former Sunderland man took to social media to thank the fans for his time at the club saying he “doesn’t mind being remembered for THAT goal against Leeds.”

“I enjoyed most of my time there, the fans were brilliant with me from day one and couldn’t thank you enough I hope I showed that I had time for fans all the time”

“[I] want to thank the staff and the players I have met some really good people, good luck for the future and trust me I don’t mind being remembered for THAT goal against Leeds.”

“Thanks for all the great memories.”
