Leeds United: Evans is Evens favourite for his own job

Steve Evans has sat around and watched the job that he has, albeit only until June 30, be hawked around in the public arena.

It was offered to MK Dons’ Karl Robinson, who turned the Whites down in favour of staying put where he is. Contact was made with Bristol Rovers over procuring the services of Darell Clarke, but after initially being knocked back by Rovers, Clarke decided to take up the option of a new three-year deal.

All the while, Evans has sat there patiently watching this cavalcade of bad taste and discourtesy unfold in front of him. All the while Steve Evans has maintained a quiet sense of dignity about the situation. All the while he has likely had to admit to himself that things seem bleak.

But borne it with dignity he has, despite telling BBC Radio Leeds’ West Yorkshire Sport Daily programme that: “it’s been a difficult situation.”

Speaking to the very same programme, Evans said: “I think I have to retain a lot of dignity and a lot of character and I think I’ve tried to display that and that’s been at the forefront of my mind.” It is this dignity that has struck a chord with some Leeds fans, who want Evans to be given a fair and funded crack of the whip when it comes to staying on as head coach.

It seems that the bookmakers, buoyed by the twin refusals of Karl Robinson and Darrell Clarke to take over the Elland Road hotseat, have installed Steve Evans as the current favourite to keep hold of his own job come the first game of the 2016/17 Championship season, according to bookmakers SkyBet.

Currently SkyBet have Evans as the Evens favourite to hold onto his own job and be the man in charge as Leeds United kick off next season’s campaign.
