French international in Boro’s sights

Reports in France (L’equipe) suggest Middlesbrough are interested in French international playmaker Clement Grenier from Olympique Lyonnais.

It is understood that representatives of the 25 year old are looking to offer potential clients Grenier’s services, but as of yet only Middlesbrough have shown an interest in the attacking midfielder.

The French midfielder, who can play on the right side of midfield, as well as in a central attacking midfield role, has been linked with Premier League teams Arsenal and Liverpool in the past but interest seems to have cooled at that level for now, possibly due to the amount of struggles due to injury and loss of form.

The midfielder has undoubted talent and would fit the dynamic of an exciting, attacking player, a creative play-maker who specialises in free-kicks.

There was some feeling from Middlesbrough fans that last season could have been an easier campaign, had they had a better goals return and been more ruthless going forward.

After the addition of Young Dane Viktor Fischer from Ajax, who plays on the left hand side of midfield, Middlesbrough may now be searching for players on the opposite flank.

Grenier has played for the national team five times, receiving his first cap under Didier Deschamps in 2013. He was selected for the 2014 World Cup but had to pull out four days prior to the Tournament and was replaced by Morgan Schneiderlin.

Grenier has scored 14 goals in 107 senior appearances for Lyon.
