Infamous Roland Duchatelet is buying another Football Club

The infamous Belgian Tycoon, Roland Duchatelet is set to buy Sint-Truiden FC in Belgium, a club which he once owned but sold on in 2011 according to recent reports.

Roland Duchatelet is well known in English Football as the second most hated owner – first being the Oyston Family in control of Blackpool – and is set to obtain another European Football Club into his vast collection.

Last Summer Roland Duchatelet was driven out of the club Standard Liege, a side which is one of the best in the Belgian League, and often competes at European level, in consequence to Duchatelet selling on their best players and being replaced with mediocre ones. An experience which many Addicks can sympathise with, since Charlton has seen similar situations and events from January 2014 onwards, the time when Charlton fell under his ownership.

This season the protest group Coalition Against Roland Duchatelet (CARD) was setup in order to attempt a similar action of driving the Belgian Tycoon from South East London, but it would seem that he is not leaving anytime soon.

Duchatelet wants to own a club once again on his home turf of Belgium, that club being Sint-Truiden, which is actually the club Katrien Meire (Charlton Athletic CEO) supports, and is where the relationship between the Belgian Tycoon and recently graduated lawyer blossomed a few years ago.

Earlier today at 10.30am Roland Duchatelet attended a press conference announcing his return to Belgian Football.

Rumour has it that Sint-Truiden will be looking for a new Chief Executive Officer with the purchase, and the Addicks will be hoping that Katrien Meire will return to Belgium and to her favourite club to manage and run the newly purchased outfit, which would bring many smiles on the faces of Charlton fans.

Once the purchase is finalised, Roland will hold ownership of the following European football sides:

  • Charlton Athletic
  • Alcorcon (Spain)
  • Ujpest (Hungary)
  • Carl Zeiss Jena (Germany)
  • Sint-Truiden (Belgium)
